Coaching is a special kind of consulting for mostly just a single person.
The length depends on the initial reason and the complexity of the desired
themes to work on. It can vary from a one-time conversation to a sequence
of eight meetings plus briefing and debriefing. The coach could function as a
reflection board, as an active listener but also as an advisor or even a trainer
of bite sized management technique potions. The coach will always use
thoughtful or sometimes even provocative questions. The coachee will this
way check his situation, list his options and work on a plan. Sometimes with
little or more help from the coach, depending on the coachees maturity.
Coaching could be ordered for a certain person. It could also be an open offer
for your key people. Some of my customers arranged with me regular
“the coach is in” sessions on a first come first served basis for their leaders.
